Tested and Worked !! Install ArcGIS 10.6.1, Let’s Download (Including ArcGIS 10.6)

ArcGIS Desktop or commonly called ArcGIS is software for processing and managing quite complete spatial data. ArcGIS created by ESRI has existed for a long time, namely since the early 2000s, no wonder the existence of ArcGIS is quite strong, its users around the world quite a lot, perhaps reaching millions of GIS practitioners. It is also inseparable from the diligent work of ESRI as the maker to update, it can even be said that almost every year, some can even update it twice a year.

Well, this is again about ArcGIS updates! Yes, GIS users must be very familiar with this software. How not because ArcGIS is currently one of the leaders in the field of GIS software in the world, apart from its superior spatial data analysis capabilities compared to other GIS software, another advantage is the large selection of ArcGIS applications made by ESRI on various platforms such as for webgis, mobile, etc.

ESRI as the producer of ArcGIS keeps updating ArcGIS, along with the growing needs for spatial data processing as well as advances in digital technology, as well as anticipating the existence of security vulnerabilities in each version of ArcGIS. It can be said that almost every year the latest version of ArcGIS always comes out, it was recorded that until mid-2018, two versions of ArcGIS have been released, in this case the desktop version, namely ArcGIS 10.6 and 10.6.1.

In January 2018 ESRI has launched the latest version of ArcGIS, namely ArcGIS Desktop 10.6 or better known as ArcGIS 10.6. Of course there are always some new things in the version. According to info released by esri.com, the updates include;

  • New tools in 3D Analyst for working with LAS datasets.
  • New tools in Network Analyst for creating network dataset layers from other layers and templates.
  • Supports PostGIS format data for storing spatial data in PostgreSQL databases and geodatabases.

Then in July 2018, ESRI again released an update or update from ArcGIS, namely by launching ArcGIS 10.6.1. Lintas Bumi has tried to install and from a glance there is no significant difference between ArcGIS versions 10.6 and 10.6.1, even in general it is the same as other 10.x versions.

Several updates were made, one of which was for the Spatial Analyst toolbox such as for Distance, Extraction, Hydrology, Surface (Contour/Contour commands), and others. But what is clear is that the Go To XY toolbar is back to normal, where in versions 10.4 and 10.5 it doesn’t work. Although there are many updates in it, for most GIS users it doesn’t really matter, considering the things that are updated are rarely used. According to Lintas Bumi, ESRI should start thinking about making ArcGIS Desktop for 64 Bit OS so that it can run faster and more efficiently. Because even though at this time it can be installed on a 64-bit OS (Windows), but actually it still runs as 32-bit software, aka installed in Program Files (X86). Hopefully in the next update this can be realized.
